The coastal community of Axim, Ghana consists of approximately 33,000 people during the peak fishing season. The poorest part of this community doesn’t have clean drinking water and is using hand-dug wells. Because the area is close to sea level, digging deeper wells isn’t possible. A team of six volunteers with Engineers Without Borders will be traveling to Ghana to evaluate the nature of the existing water supply and distribution system this fall to determine if a future project is possible.

- EWB-USA has the mission to partner with developing communities to improve their quality of life through the implementation of environmentally sustainable, equitable, and economical engineering projects. In the process of working to advance developing communities, EWB-USA promotes the development of globally aware and internationally responsible engineers, students, and professionals. NWW EWB is the Northwest Washington Professional Chapter of EWB-USA, located in Bellingham, Washington. We work together under the guidance of EWB-USA on several projects at a time, maintaining the minimum five-year commitment to the community for which the project was designed. Our mission as a chapter is to fulfill both the mission of EWB-USA as well as our chapter mission – working together to design, fund, and build solutions that will help those in dire need - through the use of our collective education, skills, connections with the community, and enthusiasm.
